The church today is sacrificing its prophetic power by raising up leaders based on ability and charisma but ignoring the character requirements of scripture. There is a difference between worldly and spiritual leadership. The spiritual leader enters into a spiritual battlefield and fights a war that the world does not prepare them for. Often leaders in ministry and even pastors can be discouraged as they try to quantify the effectiveness of their ministry in relation to what they see others doing. But a review of the scriptures teaches us that God is not looking for you to be a rock star but simply a faithful servant. When ability and gifting are emphasized over character and being spirit filled everyone loses and leaders burn out. But when we raise leaders that are focused on godliness and being filled with the spirit and have an intimate prayer life the whole church wins.
